Orange Park

The Town of Orange Park is located in Clay County, a suburb of Jacksonville, just southwest of the Duval county line and St. Johns River and has a population of 8,400.  The name “Orange Park” is additionally applied to a wider area of northern Clay County outside the town limits, covering such communities as Fleming Island, Lakeside and Bellair-Meadowbrook Terrace, making it one of Jacksonville’s most populous suburbs.  The name reflects the hope of its founders for a fruit-growing industry, but their crops were destroyed in the Great Freeze of 1894-95 and the fruit industry in Orange Park never recovered.

Orange Park is located on the St. Johns River at one of its widest sections, making views along the river fabulous. The town has a total area of 5.6 square miles of which 3.9 square miles is land. The area known as Greater Orange Park encompasses the unincorporated communities of Fleming Island, Ridgewood, Doctor’s Inlet and Orange Park South. Orange Park maintains a separate school system in Clay County, and has a township style of government similar to that of Jacksonville’s Beaches communities. The town has convenient access to I-295 and is a suburb to many of Jacksonville’s working residents. The town is also close to Jacksonville’s Naval Air Station or NAS Jax.  The town features its own malls, shopping districts, schools, a dog track, medical center, a local chamber of commerce and much more. Homes range from bungalow style homes built in the 1970′s to multi-million dollar estates along the St. Johns River.
