Jacksonville Beach

A picture perfect community with expansive beaches, beautiful palms, and warm climate, Jacksonville Beach is the largest of the northeast Florida cities.  It encompasses a total area of 22 square miles, is part of a group of beaches commonly known as the Jacksonville Beaches.  The City of Jacksonville Beach remained quasi-independent in 1968 when the City of Jacksonville consolidated many of its communities. Like the two other beach cities of Neptune and Atlantic Beach, it maintains its own municipal government, however residents still vote in the Jacksonville mayoral election and have representation on the Jacksonville city council.

Jacksonville Beach is bounded to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west by the Intracoastal Waterway, to the north by the City of Neptune Beach, and the south by Ponte Vedra Beach. Weather in the area is fantastic, with average year round high temperatures ranging from 63.5 in the winder to 89.3 degrees in the summer.

Known as Jax Beach by the locals, the city features miles of sandy beaches, access to inshore fishing via the Intracoastal Waterway, and offshore fishing via the Atlantic Ocean, many fine restaurants, excellent shopping and Duval County Schools. The residential areas offer a combination of residential homes, gated communities, townhouse style homes, condominium complexes and the city owned Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

City services include a nationally accredited police department, as well as city owned fire and rescue services. The city operates under a City Council-City Manager style of government with public elections every 2 years. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council.

Outdoor recreation is abundant, including surfing, fishing, biking, strolls along the beach and downtown, and a host of other outdoor activities.  Golf in the area is stellar with a newly revamped Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, as well as TPC Sawgrass just minutes south in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Community events are numerous, and open in January with running events such as the Winter Beach Run, Running of the Seahorses, Chariots of Fur 5K Beach Run, 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer Marathon, and the Beaches Community Family Health Walk & Fun Festival. Other fun activities include surfing contests, Spring Blues Festival, Beaches Opening Parade with sandcastle contests, Moonlight Movies in the downtown Amphitheatre, the World Renowned Kingfish Tournament, Summer Jazz Concert Series, and volleyball tournaments. Living in Jacksonville Beach is exciting, and never lacks community events.
